Ugandan Catholic Bishops Depart for Rome for Ad Limina Visit
All Catholic bishops from Uganda yesterday departed for Rome to begin their Ad Limina Apostolorum visit, marking a significant and spiritually enriching moment in the life of the Church.
The Ad Limina Visit is a longstanding tradition in the Catholic Church, during which bishops from across the world undertake a pilgrimage to Rome, typically every five years. The visit provides an opportunity for bishops to meet the Holy Father, currently Pope Leo XIV, as well as officials of the Vatican, to present a detailed account of the pastoral and administrative life of their respective dioceses.

This important journey serves multiple purposes. Foremost, it strengthens the bond of unity and communion between local Churches and the Pope, reaffirming their shared mission and fidelity to the universal Church. It also offers bishops a platform to report on the progress made within their dioceses, while candidly discussing the challenges they face, including pastoral needs, social concerns, and evangelisation efforts.
In return, the bishops receive guidance, encouragement, and direction from the Vatican on matters relating to faith, governance, and the mission of the Church in an ever-changing world. These engagements are crucial in ensuring that the Church remains responsive, vibrant, and aligned with its spiritual mandate.
A central aspect of the Ad Limina Visit is the time dedicated to prayer and reflection. The bishops will visit and pray at the tombs of the Apostles, particularly Saint Peter and Saint Paul, renewing their commitment to the apostolic mission entrusted to them.
The departure of the Ugandan bishops underscores the global nature of the Catholic Church and highlights the deep spiritual connection that binds believers across continents. It also reaffirms the shared responsibility of Church leaders to spread the Gospel, promote social justice, and strengthen faith communities both within Uganda and around the world.
As the bishops embark on this sacred pilgrimage, the faithful in Uganda are invited to keep them in prayer, that their mission in Rome may bear fruit for the continued growth and unity of the Church.
