The local church of Bukangara started in 1933 by a small Christian community led by the Late Kanyungu Yuliana as the first catechist.

In October 2002 we the Christians received news through the parish priest of Kasanga parish Fr. Emmanuel Tavulya Ndanda that Bukangara has been declared a parish but due to lack of enough priests in the diocese of Kasese, it is of recent last year in august 2010 that the first priest by the names of Rev.
